My Lord,
Prilogia, Hongkong, 26th March, 1849.
I have the honor to report that in compliance with Your Lordship's instructions conveyed in Despatch No. 78 of the 30th December 1848, the duty of 2 1/2 per cent in this Colony on goods sold by public auction, was levied and abolished from the 4th instant; and further, that with the concurrence of the Executive Council I decided on increasing the fee of Auction Licenses to 150 Dollars per annum each.
The persons who have been licensed to exercise the calling of Auctioneers for one year from the above date, are 8 in number.
